Hargreaves Lansdown API

With the rapid growth of Fin-Tech companies that we have seen in the past five years, it is almost unimaginable that the existing giants in the industry have not tried to keep up. Sure, most of the giants such as AJ Bell and Hargreaves Lansdown have mobile apps that let you manage you accounts on the go, but the latter is missing one critical feature.

Any developer will understand the importance of offering an Open API to end customers, it encourages innovation; new products and services all with your services at their core. So the question arises about why a financial giant like HL does not offer this product. Simply put, I don't know, but I have an idea.

Hargreaves Lansdown have traditionally been a company where individuals deal with their own investments, unlike other like AJ Bell; users are usually only managing their own personal portfolios. It therefore makes perfect sense why they don't have a public API - but if, like me, you like Hargreaves Lansdown's products but want a little more functionality, or some automation that you are going to build yourself then you're going to need to find a way of working with their systems.

Take a look at the project on Github.

I primarily use this package to help with my automated re-balancing back to my model portfolio at the end of each period, however if you have any interesting use cases for this project I would love to hear from you.

I am still actively working on this project, and it by no means has all the functionality I would like so feel free to submit pull requests with new functionality.

  1. Interesting observation Jonathan, and kudos for taking initiative on this. Do you think there is a market gap here that could be exploited?
